Hotel Transylvania 3
Being an adult does not mean you can not dabble in some kid shows or movies. With that being said, I definitely watch my share of, what older people may consider, kid movies. More specifically, I have fallen in love with the latest movie Hotel Transylvania. I have watched every single one of them and have yet to be disappointed. The more recent movie I have fed my inner child with is Hotel Transylvania 3. It may be for the younger viewers, but it also hits some adult situations that I am sure most of us can relate to. For instance, Hotel Transylvania 3 gives situations of a single parent whom will do anything to keep his or her kids happy. It shows how some parents feel tied down due to having kids. Not only that, but it shows how some individuals feel that once they have lost the love of their life, for whatever reason, that they will never be able to love another. There is also the situation that someone could not be with another person due to what or who they are. I could probably go on and on about some things you would not think kids would understand, but my point is these movies have deeper meanings.
In this third continuance of Hotel Transylvania, it starts off in the 1800’s where Dracula and his friends are trying to escape a monster hunter named Abraham Van Helsing. It shows a brief history of how he hunted Dracula but failed at each encounter. He swore to hunt each and every monster basically till his dying day, but let us be real, he will not live that long. Fast forward to present day, Dracula has come to the realization that he is indeed lonely. In the first movie we learn that his wife was killed by an angry hoard of people who hated monsters. He was left with an infant daughter named Mavis who is now grown, married to a human, and has a child of their own together.
Well, Dracula is clearly desperate to find love even though it is well known among the monster community that you can only zing once. What is a zing you ask? Well a zing is like love at first sight for monsters. He is so desperate that he even tried using an online dating app for monsters called, wait for it, Zinger. After scrolling through his options and an unfortunate matched made, he did not have any luck. Mavis, mistaking her fathers weird behavior lately has to do with the fact that they have been so busy with the hotel feel that they need a vacation. She then decides to surprise her father with a monster cruise. He was not impressed at first due to the fact that it was just another hotel, just on the water. He quickly realized the thought and effort she put into it and accepted as time to spend with the people he loved.
As the captain made her entrance, the Love Boat was ready for a reboot. What was once impossible just happened to Dracula. He zinged! When who we now know as Captain Erika introduced herself to all the monsters, he was so loved struck that he could not even form words to communicate with her. The only problem with him falling for her is that she just so happens to be the great great granddaughter of Abraham Van Helsing who is also trying to kill all monsters. Not only that, but he is still alive!
He replaced his failing organs with technology and has been rolling around all these years. You can just guess what he is trying to do now. That is right. He is still trying to kill all monsters, but has a for certain way of doing so with the help of Erika. Well, while in the process of trying to kill Dracula she starts to fall for him. She even went on a date with him trying to kill him at the same time. Luckily the date was interrupted by Mavis although he lied that it was just them discussing business. Catching her sneaky father, who was supposed to be with his grandson at the time, really let out some insecurities she had about him dating.
After showing Erika that he could protect her literally all the time by helping her retrieve a, so called, family heirloom it was only a matter of time before the truth about her would come out. In the midst of Erika helping remove weapons from Dracula caused by boobytraps, Mavis walks in and instantly goes after her. Mavis is confused as to why Dracula does not see that Erika has been trying to hurt him all this time. He then explains to Mavis that he zinged and tells Erika, who had no clue what a zing even is, exactly what that means. Sadly, even though she has clearly fallen for him, Erika says she could never be with a monster. In the monster world a zing never lies, so what is he to do now.
At a dance party Abraham Van Helsing reveals himself to Dracula and the whole cruise party. He then reveals that that whole time the the cruise was just to lure the monsters to their demise. To make matters worse he then has Erika tell her truth on being a Van Helsing. It seems that all hope is lost when the “family heirloom” turns out to hold what is need to destroy all monsters. While this instrument is being used by Abraham, controls a kraken with music, Erika ends up saving Dracula from being squashed and telling her great great grandfather that she was in love with Dracula. Of course he does not take that well and tries to take them both out. The only way they could defeat him was to play good positive music against his evil music. In short, they had a DJ battle. Dracula ends up saving Abraham who then learns that it does not matter who or what you are, we are all the same.
In the end, we all deserve happiness. We should not feel as if in order for the people around us to be happy, we should hinder our own. Also, learn to let go of he hate.
It should not matter what or who we are. Everyone has feelings and deserve to live in peace without the worry of someone mistreating us because of our preferences on who we date or who we are. Do not let how others feel keep you from making life changing decisions that benefit you mentally and emotionally. We all deserve a happy ending.
